Maruti has been dominating the Indian Automobile market with the small segment cars, yet they have had two flop cars in the past. After all the turn and twist now Maruti has managed to launch yet another small car replacing the A-star and the Zen Estilo. The all new Maruti Celerio looks like it’s a cross breed of the Alto 800 from the rear and A-Star from the side, not to mention that the front is somewhat similar to a Toyota Etios not sure if the front look was copied from Etios or a rough coincidence. The Celerio name plate is already been used by Suzuki many a times in other parts of the world, however now Celerio is going to be sold in this shape Worldwide with the same name plate. Interiors are the best in this car, we did not expect this kind of a high quality interiors from Maruti. Most of the interiors are taken straight from a high end hatch of Maruti like the steering wheel and the gear shifter knob from Swift. Dual tone dashboard and the silver inserts around the center console looks fabulous. The gear knob is attached to the center console which looks like being adopted from Ritz. The glove box attached to the dashboard has a very less storage space, and every door pad has a bottle holder. There is enough space inside the car, Maruti has managed good legroom and head room both in front and the rear of the car, however the car will not welcome a 5th person. The features within the car are more than satisfactory for a small segment car, like the auto-locking doors, electrically adjustable outside rear view mirrors, power windows with auto up/down, rear defoggers and many others. I wonder how Maruti has managed to give such big boot space (235-liters), in fact it is much bigger than a Swift (216-liters). The 60:40 split on the rear seat makes it more convenient to commute mass volume luggage (the LXI does not get this feature though). The panel gaps on the car are easily visible even from a fair distance from the car, I don’t understand how could Maruti compromise build quality on a car, which is going to be marketed globally. Engine vibration is easily felt at lower speeds which may be due to power damping in the engine bay. The car noticeably shakes when a heavy multi axle bus passes next to it on a highway, this may be due to the lightweight body of the car (the car as a whole weighs only 850kgs) hence safety is compromised. The suspension of the car is really too soft to take rough roads, vibrations felt all over the car when pushed at higher speeds. The steering is light and gets even lighter as in when the speed increases which is not really good. Small cars are fun to be throttled in corners and so is Celerio without any dispute, however the tires do not provide the required grip for the car to stick on to the road.Overall the car is cool in a city road, easy to drive and all of the features at the unbelievable price, but have to tolerate with the engine sound and safety features.
